Vultures are one of those bands whose name I have seen in passing but never actually heard anything that they have produced. I had no idea what to expect from this one, which tends to be all the more exciting to dig into.
Although Vultures’ sound isn’t entirely unique to what is out there at the moment, the filthy bass and rhythm guitars give a more pleasing edge to the underlying sound. This is layered by a use of effects which blend the lead guitars and synths really well. The vocals are melodic, although delivered in generally lower tones, polish things off rather well, something similar to the style of Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster.
Murder Ballad isn’t exactly up beat and is fairly laid back at heart, however the roughed up edges make Vultures sound that bit more gritty and satisfying to listen to. The song is very well crafted from the structure to the melodies, and the result is one that is difficult to fault. All in all, this is a solid piece of modern alternative rock and is worth a few minutes of your time.
